Thrice's 'Deadbolt' Lyrics

When deadbolts awake you from deja vu dreams;
At four in the morning you know where I'll be.
Out running red lights asleep at the wheel.
The sirens feed my nightmares.

I just close my eyes and I'm already here;
It's already too late.
I know it's nothing but lies,
But they sound so sincere;
I find them too hard to hate.

And she calls from the doorway "stolen water is sweet,
So let's drink it in the darkness if you know what I mean"
And she calls from the doorway "stolen water is sweet,
So let's drink it in the darkness if you know what I mean"

And I'm almost sure
That I've been here before,
That this is not the first time I've stood in front of this door,
With an overwhelming feeling that I shouldn't go in,
But it seems this is a battle that I never could win.

And you!
My true love!
You call from the hilltop.
You call through the streets,
"Darling don't you know,
The water is poison."
And I say!
"Come on and give me my poison."

What have I done?
Is it too late to save me from this place?
From the depths of the grave?
We all are those ..
Who thought we were brave.
What have I done?

Complex Simplicity

Sometimes I dream of going back to before life was complicated...

When life was as simple as you farm, you eat, you live.

I go to that place a lot in my writing. No writer likes to write about the mundane day-to-day
dabblings and chores of the modern person. Well, some do, but none that I have
any love of.
The truth is the human form, spirit and mind are the most complex
things you come across in life. In this day and age, it seems we have tried to make things
easier by judging our needs and wants on the "do what YOU want" ideal. In fact,
in our quest to make things simple, accessible and available we inevitably made things more complex. Though many of these things were established for our own good I question
their need.

I question commercialism.

I question consumerism.

I question entitlements.

Indeed, we seem to think we are in control. I would bet that if we were, the world would be doomed. I have found people saying, "I am human, therefore I have rights."

Do you?

Did you make yourself exist?

Did you come into the world through your own will?

I would go out on a limb and say what freedoms we have are limited rightly.
I don't want to decide what is best for me, because what is best for me is not simply this or that at any given moment. No, the reason the world is complex is because we are eternally complex.
We will never have any complete grasp on ourselves. Their are many things about myself
that I do not understand. Evils. Emotions. These are enough to contend with. Frustration gives way more often than not simply because between my complexities, the complexities of others and complexities of this world leave me feeling so powerless that I breakdown.

Thank God, that His words are so simple.
That it is impossible to understand him, but easy to know him.

At the end of the day, my ramblings probably will fall to the ground, or on deaf ears. But I know
even with the horrors, the lies and the confusion of my world... God is simple.

So simple.
